Doing the Work

This entry was started in July 2026 & continued in October 2026.

Listen…when I wrote that last post, ‘Let’s Get the First Somewhat Awkward Post in the Books’, I was getting over some of the worst illness that I’ve experienced in my adulthood. The Dr. told me that it sounded like Adenovirus, a multi-symptom, respiratory virus that can be caught ANY TIME of the year 😮‍💨
I was down bad, y’all.
But I was still grateful for those 3 weeks.
Even though I was feeling like a paper bag blowing in the wind 😂, I sat still.
Our lives are so busy that we never consider what the luxury of what TRULY sitting still feels like.
No school pickup/drop off, no cooking or cleaning, no gym, no outside with loved ones, No NOTHING.
Just stillness & reflection.
All of my energy had to go to recovering.
I’m SO grateful for ‘Be Well Immune Boosting Tea’.

Be Well Tea & my house veggie soup were the only things I was able to consume.

October 2026

In a way, being only able to consume the same thing every day for days on end resurfaced my struggle with setting and enforcing boundaries as well as discipline.
& as uncomfortable as it was in the moment, I’m grateful for it in hindsight. I have begun a new project that has never required so much of me.
It has its challenges for sure.
It requires me to really be the ‘Boss Lady’ that my partner calls me all the time 😝.
But if I had to grade myself on setting boundaries and discipline in the present vs pre-RESToration era, I’d give myself a SOLID B minus.
haha

In my experience, the funny thing about reaching into the darkness of the shadows to do your work (shadow work) is that other shadows that you’ve been selectively bypassing will pop up as well and call you to the front of the classroom. One of those for me has been control. For as long as I can remember, I have had a tendency to need to control everything around me. How things happen, when they happen, who I do and do not allow in my space so that certain outcomes don’t happen. In reality, all I’ve been doing all this time is using unnecessary energy. There’s no possible way to control every outcome to every situation that shows up in my life. Not one that ends up with my mental health or sanity in tact. In taking the time to do the shadow work, I recognize that this tendency stems from trauma. Not only personal trauma that I’ve experienced, but also fear created from trauma that rightfully belongs to those who have come before me. It has been wrapped up beautifully and regifted to me.
But this is the part where I consciously reprogram. Uninstall what no longer serves me. Create a new program and install it. Work out the bugs as I go of course. Update. Rinse. Repeat.
As I worked on the aforementioned project, I received opportunities to work on that particular shadow REPEATEDLY. Something about the shadows know when you are doing the work and have NO issue granting new opportunities to get some work done.
I found myself coming up with a mantra to remind me to stay the course.
It started off as ‘Where does my responsibility as a Mother end and my children’s responsibility for themselves begin?’ I won’t elaborate too much on the context, but what I will say is that mother guilt will have a dedicated mother ready to go to the ends of the Earth for a child that isn’t even ready to step off the sidewalk. 😮‍💨

Anyhow, that mantra expanded past the focus specifically on my children and expanded to all other people and aspects.

‘Where does my responsibility as a/for/to/etc. end and the responsibility of ___________ begin?’
It has done wonders for the way that I approach life and I’m hoping that by sharing in this vulnerable way might inspire you, my Love, to ask the same.

In a world full of chaos driving the masses insane, I’m grateful to be here…in the present….doing this work…
& should you ever want to join me, I’ll be right here.
Encouraging you to take the 1st step.

With Love,
Day
